Empowering Frontliners: IOM Montenegro Takes Stride in Preventing and Combating Migrant Smuggling with Comprehensive training
In a dedicated effort to strengthen the capabilities of frontline personnel, IOM Montenegro conducted a targeted training session on preventing and combating the smuggling of migrants from the 21st to the 22nd of December 2023. This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at addressing the transnational phenomenon of migrant smuggling, shedding light on the pivotal role of transit countries, and equipping participants with effective responses to combat this multifaceted challenge. The training also delved into the realm of electronic evidence and technology-facilitated modus operandi in trafficking in human beings and migrant smuggling, supported by national experts.
Participants in the training expressed positive feedback, commending the comprehensive content and the expertise of the trainers. The high level of engagement and active participation observed during the sessions underscored the effectiveness of the training in providing valuable insights and practical tools for addressing the complexities associated with migrant smuggling. This capacity-building activity is part of two regional projects, namely, the "Western Balkans Joint Actions Against Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Human Beings" and the "Western Balkans Integrated Border Management Capacity Building Facility."
IOM Montenegro's commitment to enhancing the knowledge and skills of frontliners reflects a proactive stance in the collective efforts to combat illicit activities related to migration. By fostering a comprehensive understanding and providing practical tools, the organization contributes significantly to the region's ability to respond effectively to the challenges posed by the smuggling of migrants, ultimately ensuring the security and integrity of borders in Montenegro.
