MOI and IOM Strengthening Partnership in Combatting Human Trafficking
DELIVERY OF DATABASE SOFTWARE FOR ELECTRONIC MANAGEMENT OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING CASES TO THE MINISTRY OF THE INTERIOR OF MONTENEGRO
Acting Director General of the Directorate for International Cooperation, European Integration, and Projects at the Ministry of the Interior of Montenegro (MOI), Tijana Šuković, and the Chief of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission, Vladimir Gjorgjiev, held a meeting today to discuss joint projects in the areas of integrated border management, migration, and the fight against human trafficking.
During the meeting, the Ministry of the Interior of Montenegro received software developed for the electronic management of human trafficking cases, which will enable the generation of official statistics on human trafficking cases at the national level.
During the meeting, Acting Director General of the Directorate for International Cooperation, European Integration, and Projects, Tijana Šuković emphasized that, given that the country is entering a more demanding phase of the negotiation process, the establishment of this software solution will strengthen the capacity of law enforcement agencies to prosecute human trafficking. It will improve the data collection system according to established standards, allowing for the monitoring of current trends and the creation of quality analyses, which will serve as a basis for developing future policies in this area. She also expressed gratitude to the International Organization for Migration for their continuous support to the Ministry and for strengthening capacities in migration management, including improvements in border control and cross-border cooperation.
IOM Montenegro Chief of Mission Vladimir Gjorgjiev highlighted that the delivery of the software, developed according to the needs of the Ministry of the Interior, is crucial for improving the overall system for monitoring and analyzing human trafficking cases. This activity plays a vital role in strengthening Montenegro's institutional capacities to combat human trafficking and organized crime, directly contributing to the fulfilment of European Commission recommendations and alignment with EU standards in chapters 23 and 24, particularly regarding the rule of law, human rights protection, and migration. Gjorgjiev also confirms the successful and ongoing cooperation between MOI and IOM.
This activity was carried out under the regional project of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) titled "Western Balkans Joint Actions Against Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Human Beings" (WBJAST) and is simultaneously a result of successful regional cooperation in cross-border exchange of good practices, drawing on successful models implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
