IOM donation to the Police Academy: Valuable support for strengthening security
Mr. Vladimir Gjorgjiev, Chief of the IOM Montenegro Mission, together with his colleagues, Ms. Milica Šćepović, Project Associate, and Ms. Edina Osmanović, Communications Associate, visited the Police Academy in Danilovgrad to deliver a significant donation to improve the work of the Police Academy and educate young participants.
As part of the project “Western Balkans Integrated Border Management Capacity Building Facility (WBIBM)”, funded by the Government of the Kingdom of Denmark, valuable equipment for checking and identifying forged documents was donated to the Police Academy. This equipment will be vital for training border police officers, as well as for future police officers undergoing training at the Police Academy.
"Among other things, IOM's priority is integrated border management. We support the capacity building of professional staff and infrastructure, providing support to Montenegro to meet standards and harmonize legal regulations with the aim of joining the European Union as soon as possible," said Mr. Gjorgjiev, adding that "Montenegro's significant progress on the path to the European Union is highlighted."
The Director of the Police Academy, Mr. Vladimir Stanišić, emphasized the importance of the donation. "We are aware of how significant the donation of equipment for detecting forged documents is. We strive to support the security system and enable police officers to receive practical education, aiming for them to apply their knowledge in practice," said Mr. Stanišić. He emphasized that human resources are crucial, as well as the use of technical equipment for detecting and proving criminal activities.
IOM Chief of Mission Mr. Gjorgjiev expressed openness to deepening cooperation with the Police Academy to contribute to strengthening human and technical capacities in combating cross-border crime.
In addition, a new project proposal addressing the fight against human trafficking was announced, continuing engagement in improving security and crime prevention.
This donation and support are crucial steps towards enhancing security and improving police work, which will contribute to better protection, both for the citizens of Montenegro and the broader community, as well as for the citizens of the region and the EU.
