Promotion of Human Rights and Gender Equality in Migration Management: Key Discussions and Training Initiative
Podgorica - Senior officials from the Ministry of Interior, responsible for migration management, convened at a workshop focused on raising awareness of the critical need for a robust fundamental rights mechanism within the context of mixed migration and border management.
The workshop aimed to identify key areas for improvement in the domains of human rights and gender equality. With the guidance of an expert engaged by IOM, specific learning needs were pinpointed, paving the way for the development of training programs designed to instill respect, protection, and the promotion of fundamental human rights and gender equality among frontline officers. These training sessions are scheduled for the near future.
The event, organized as part of an initiative funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, provided valuable support to relevant national authorities by creating awareness about the advantages of integrating a gender perspective into border management practices.
In addition, a session, facilitated by UN Montenegro's Human Rights Advisor, acquainted participants with UN human rights mechanisms, with a special focus on the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Montenegro's human rights record, set to be presented at the Human Rights Council in Geneva this May.
