Regional Round Table on Enhancing Cross-Border Cooperation Among Service Providers in the Western Balkans
In a concerted effort to enhance responses and support service providers in the Western Balkans, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) convened a regional round table on December 12th and 13th, 2023. This initiative underscores IOM's commitment to strengthening protection and assistance mechanisms for victims of trafficking in human beings across the region.
The round table focused on crucial aspects, including the enhancement of systems for providing direct assistance, the development of reintegration and rehabilitation programs, and the exploration of transborder referral and assistance methods. Recognizing the multifaceted challenges faced by survivors, the discussions aimed to empower service providers with the tools needed to effectively counter trafficking in the Western Balkans.
Key topics addressed during the round table encompassed the improvement of direct assistance systems, the implementation of personalized reintegration and rehabilitation programs, and the exploration of avenues for trans-border cooperation. By fostering collaboration among service providers, IOM aims to create a supportive network that not only aids in the healing and empowerment of survivors but also contributes to countering trafficking effectively in the region.
This crucial activity was made possible with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark through the Western Balkans Joint Actions Against Smuggling of Migrants and Trafficking in Human Beings (WBJAST) project.
The collaboration highlights the importance of international partnerships in addressing complex challenges and working towards a safer and more secure future for victims of trafficking in the Western Balkans.
