Western Balkans Initiative Advances Reintegration of Returning Foreign Fighters: Third Regional Steering Committee Meeting in Budva

Budva - On April 27th, the Third Regional Steering Committee meeting for the project "Building institutional capacity in the Western Balkans to deal with challenges related to reintegration, resocialization, and rehabilitation of returning foreign terrorist fighters (RFTF) and their families from conflict zones" was held in Budva.

This initiative, backed by the European Union, brought together representatives from relevant institutions in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and Kosovo*, along with international community observers, donors, and partners. The discussions centred on sharing best practices, addressing challenges, planning future exchanges, and emphasizing the importance of coordinated regional strategies.

Members of the Steering Committee underscored the significance of the sustainable project infrastructure developed by IOM - UN Migration in collaboration with Western Balkans partners. This approach is rooted in tailoring solutions to local needs, with the project playing a vital role in mitigating radicalization among the youth population and fostering community-level resilience against violent extremism in the region.
